I watched match of the. Day, specifically to see what was said and basically they just accepted it with no discussion. I’m if it had been ManU it would have been a tragedy of justice. Really crap programme.

Those most marginal and open to interpretation situations like the penalty appeal will allow a referee with undisclosed bias to play god.

Definetely that pen could have gone for us and I doubt anyone would have been screaming about any real injustice, less sure about handball as the rules on that changed recently I thought.

I’m not sure whether what we are shown on screen is exactly what the VAR planks are looking at with offside decisions but I have no confidence in that stuttering crooked line nonsense with a line intersecting a players bollocks.
Have always said they should have a couple of looks to see if there is daylight in a wrong decision. If not ... refs call.
Perhaps they could also explain the time taken with the Bournemouth decision on Goslings goal.
One look made it obvious he was comfortably onside and it should have taken 30 secs

Re: ⚽ Soton v West Ham - Official Match Thread - In memory of Gavros
Mane was definitely offside. VAR wasn't even reviewing in line with play, but looking at it from 5 / 10 yards ahead of play, which meant Mane got the benefit of parallax error.

It is pointless having a system to check stupid referees, run and managed by... stupid referees...

It definitely owes us a few decisions already.

I don't understand how that wasn't a penalty yesterday. Clear fouls on each of Haller and Antonio.......but.

If Atkinson follows the flight of the ball and only sees the fouls out of the corner of his eye, he can't be certain what happened so he gives nothing.

VAR reviews. concludes it wasn't a clear and obvious error and the decision is cooked against us. It's the 'clear and obvious' bit that fucks all those decisions.

Fitness is a concern...
Just like the Arsenal game we tired visibly after 70 mins...
Midfield especially...Noble...Snodgrass made a difference as Soton took control of the game...and could have scored several timesm..

Sven, I mean for us, or was it Southampton?

I'm getting confused over all the bad decisions yesterday

Re: ⚽ Soton v West Ham - Official Match Thread - In memory of Gavros
I'm getting more and confused about VAR and the rules. We've gone from punishing the grappling at set plays with penalties to totally ignoring it, balls hitting defenders hands and arms in the box unintentionally are not penalties even if they block the ball from going in or to the intended recipient. The ball unintentionally hitting an arm or hand by a forward results in a disallowed goal. Blatant blocking, holding and pushing in the box is all ignored by VAR so as not to override the refs on the pitches decision.

Being a toenail ahead of the last man can result in being offside despite the technology not being that accurate and the advantage being negligible.
It's not the technologies fault. It's being used appallingly and the refereeing continues to be a total shit show.

Running the incident in the box with Haller and Antonio in real time, it's amazing that the ref or linesman doesn't see that as clear fouls. I was convinced VAR would but they bottled it. They were happy to chalk off Antonios goal though.

Re: ⚽ Soton v West Ham - Official Match Thread - In memory of Gavros
Mane was offside by a tiny amount
Supposedly
Though I saw that for the second Liverpool goal Salah was onside as the defenders stuck out ARSE was playing him on.

Mex Martillo 3:06 Sun Dec 15
Re: ⚽ Soton v West Ham - Official Match Thread - In memory of Gavros
It was beyond belief.

The handball to disallow Antonio’s goal was also very disappointing. It’s a stupid rule that I think should be changed back to how it was.

I had a Spanish commentary and they firstly contradicted both VAR decisions and were a bit lost for words when the VAR disagreed with what they had just been concluding from the same replays.

Which player was it who was adjudged by VAR to have his left bollock in an offside position?

Sven Roeder 2:58 Sun Dec 15
Re: ⚽ Soton v West Ham - Official Match Thread - In memory of Gavros
Of course Bertrand

As Bent describes it he panics as he realises Haller has nipped ahead of him and takes desperate last ditch action.
How you can not give that before you even get to the other defender putting a headlock on Antonio is beyond belief.

Bertrand.

Re: ⚽ Soton v West Ham - Official Match Thread - In memory of Gavros
Chris Kamara and Darren Bent on Goals on Sunday describing Redmond on Haller as an ABSOLUTE STONEWALL PENALTY
But you knew that

That’s two of those Haller has been cheated out of now by incompetent referees and worse VAR goggleboxers.

Or you could say if we’d had a better ref on the pitch and better ref wherever the cunt that does VAR we’d of been well out of site by 60mins when the front two ran out of legs

Re: ⚽ Soton v West Ham - Official Match Thread - In memory of Gavros
As mentioned, better teams (most) than Southampton would have likely beaten us even yesterday especially after the usual 60 mins when our fitness and / or the toll of the closing down that 33 years old Snodgrass and Noble put in kicks in and even others feel the effect of constantly trying to keep up with collectively faster teams.

Also yesterday Southampton put an extra man in midfield second half and we lost the grip on the game we had.

Whoever is manager needs other options in midfield to Snods and Noble as workers. They still have a role for another season or at least Noble does because he still has great passing range and accuracy. But he needs to be playing less minutes. We need that midfield powerhouse, box to box man. We need 2 or at least another person with legs of Rice or this other guy get injured. We need them immediately or will remain in real danger of relegation.

Re: ⚽ Soton v West Ham - Official Match Thread - In memory of Gavros
Norfundon, we should do both to the head and feet, and I think we were. I did see Haller after a high ball came in when there was space to have crossed it on the floor pointing to his feet to say put it in to my feet. Perhaps Haller prefers it to his feet? He has a great first touch. But must admit, also nearly scored with a good header.

I don’t like us playing 442 at all but the front to just clicked yesterday sometimes you just get two players who blend together perfectly and they absolutely ran then ragged till they ran out of legs
If we are going to play that way I’d love to see the two wide players playing on the side that allows them to Ross the ball without checking back I don’t understand why when you have two players who are fantastic in the air why you wouldn’t want to use that, it’s not as if the two wide players are cutting in and scoring shit loads of goals
IMO that’s a manager too stuck in his ways to spot a deficiency in the team
